Homemade Deodorant
This works so much better than I expected. I have been using it for 6 months and its held up to everything including a Texas summer!
I am not one of those people that glow when they get overheated. I flat out sweat and y’all sometimes it’s not pretty. Store bought deodorants don’t seem to be able to keep up with me and require more than one application a day. I originally did a post about this Homemade Deodorant in May and compared it to another version. Now that summer is fading, I wanted to shine the spotlight directly on this version, it is amazing!
Originally when I found this Homemade Deodorant on Pinterest I didn’t expect it to work. Seriously, deodorant is not necessarily something you want to mess with but it works so well that I will never buy it in the store again.

I ordered the arrowroot powder from Amazon.com, although, theoretically you could replace it with cornstarch. I tried it both ways and either one works. It was not that expensive considering how little you use. If you are interested, this is the one I bought: Arrowroot Powder
The beeswax pellets and the coconut oil went into my makeshift double boiler until they melted down completely.
I measured the *dry* ingredients before I started so I added those once it melted. I kept it on the heat when I added it because last time it started to solidify before I had time to pour it in the container.
I whisked it all together and then added a few drops of each essential oil (I used lemon balm and rosemary) until it smelled the way I wanted it to. I pulled it off the heat and poured it into the container as quickly as possible.
I love this deodorant! When I was testing it the first time I was constantly doing “smell checks” to make sure that it was working. I went without showering to see how long it would hold up and it lasted for 50 hours (The things I do in the name of testing!) My attempts to get Joe to help me did not go well. I spent a week and a half trying to tackle him with my armpit and he evaded me every time so that 50 hours is based on when *I* smelled it. It is possible that I imagined the smell at that point so I could get my grubby self in the shower, but either way 2 days+ is impressive.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when summer started, I knew it worked but I wasn’t sure how it was going to hold up under duress. You guys, I should never have doubted! I didn’t do another “no shower” test but I never had to reapply it during the day and I didn’t have any problems.
I would love to know if any of you are using a homemade version of deodorant and how it works for you. I am so impressed with this and I would love to know if there is another version that is even better!
